Forming Opinions

My son was having a heated discussion with his father the other day. I was proud to hear him express his OWN opinions about things, even though they were NOT the same opinions that his father had. They "agreed to disagree," and the situation stayed calm and peaceful. Yes, I want them to get along better and learn to talk to each other without arguing. BUT--I want to see my son form his OWN beliefs and opinions about things, not just accept OUR way of thinking. I was proud to hear him say things that, though I knew went against the way his father thought, were HIS thoughts on the matter at hand. I am proud of him for standing up for what he believes in instead of just accepting what his parents think and believe. Good job, son!
