We had a chance to visit my brother recently. He is what my teens call "a cool uncle." They don't get a lot of time with him, but they enjoy being around him when they can. He has traveled a lot and gives them cool souvenirs. He has a really cool music collection. He is really funny and always makes them laugh. When they were younger, they saw him often and really looked up to him. Lately, they haven't seen him as much, but they still think he is cool. It was their idea to go for a visit, so we did. They enjoyed visiting his "bachelor pad"--he is twice divorced and is currently living the bachelor lifestyle. My son is especially fascinated with this--he wants to see what the the bachelor life is all about. My daughter wants to know all about his dating life--she wants him to remarry and have kids. They enjoy some of the same music--they even ended up borrowing some of his CDs. I just wish we had a bit more time with him--I think he could especially be a good influence on my son as he enters manhood. Fathers and sons tend to butt heads a lot, but uncles and nephews tend to get along a bit better. Maybe my son can have both the influence of his father and his uncle in his life. Maybe we can arrange to spend more time with their cool uncle in the future. I really enjoyed spending some time with my brother, too!
