Career Day
My son had a Career Day at school last week--it motivated him to begin the process of narrowing down his choices and options for his future. He has said many things regarding his career goals--they seem to change often. He is only a freshman in high school, so I expect these goals to change several more times before he actually begins his lifelong career. Still, teens today are expected to choose a general direction fairly early in life and begin the path toward a general career goal. I remember that stage--I certainly changed my mind several times from my teens and through my twenties. I even made a major career change in my forties--I recently completed a Masters Degree in a completely different area than my Bachelors Degree--I am looking forward to a completely new career that I never even imagined doing when I was a teenager. It will be interesting to see if my teens choose a path and stay on it, or veer off into different directions in the future. Either way, I hope they end up doing something that they enjoy and are successful doing it. If you have to go to work every day, you should definitely choose to do something that you enjoy doing--you should also choose something that you are really good at doing. That is the best way to ensure career success and happiness--that, and a little bit of luck regarding the job market, the economy, and other issues!
