Thanksgiving Feast

We enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at my in-laws house--turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, squash casserole, etc.--mmm, mmm, good! :) My teens enjoyed eating a nice meal--healthy foods in reasonable portions--they stopped when they were full and didn't really overeat. As I watched my mother-in-law prepare her recipes, I thought about the future and the "changing of the guard"--it will be SO different when it is MY turn to host the family gatherings! My mother is just as into the cooking as my mother-in-law is--they really love it and they see it as a way to shower love on their families. I am the complete opposite--I hate to cook, and I would prefer to find different ways other than food to express my love. When it is my turn--when my grown kids and future grandkids want to come to my house for holidays--I would like to take them out to eat at nice restaurants, or at least get the big meals catered to us. Also, I would like to take them to do something really fun instead of just sitting around the television while everyone naps. When it comes to Christmas, I think it is MUCH easier on parents with small children to stay home--if they want to invite me to their house, that would be great. So one day in the near future, the "traditional" holidays will end for my family and we will begin new ones--it is kind of exciting! :)
