AOL Instant Messenger

Both of my teens were concerned about staying in touch with their friends while out of town--my son was especially worried about keeping in touch with his girlfriend. The in-laws have a computer, but they don't use it for things like instant messaging and he wasn't sure if they would let him download the program. As soon as we arrived, he asked and they said yes--he installed AOL instant messenger and chatted with his friends and girlfriend the whole time we were there. He also used my cell phone to call, but I insisted that he wait until after 9:00 to avoid using my minutes. My daughter spent time with her cousins and didn't really talk to her friends back home. They are now reaching the age where they would rather be with friends instead of family during the holidays--at least we were able to compromise by helping them keep in touch.
