Fish-Sitter
My son took his fish tank to a relative's house so they could "fish-sit" for him while he was gone. It isn't easy to move a large fish tank--he put the fish in a small bowl and drained the tank, packed everything in the car to deliver it to the fish-sitter, set everything back up over there, refilled the tank, replaced the fish, and gave instructions about feeding the fish before he left. Seems like an awful lot of trouble to me! The dog ends up traveling with us--the in-laws have dogs and don't mind one more--but the fish wouldn't have made it on the trip very well. Honestly, I feel that pets are more trouble than they are worth--that is MY personal opinion and I know that a lot of people disagree with me--I guess I am just burned out on "caretaking"--I enjoyed raising my children who I love dearly, but I have no desire to take care of pets--that just extends the realm of caretaking beyond a point that I am willing to go. For now, my teens need to care for their pets--I do sometimes end up having to do some things when they aren't around, though--when they grow up and leave home, they need to take the pets with them because I don't want to take over the daily pet care. I'm just not a pet person I guess--I won't be buying little dogs once my nest is empty, that is for sure!! I think it will be nice to be able to travel or stay out all day without having to deal with pet care! :)
